First:  About "Keywords".   A rule of thumb is to put yourself in the position of the Internet User looking for what you do.   What would they type? Would it be misspelled?  If these same words are keywords in your site, they'll find you right? Guess what? the harder you try to craft content for targeting keywords, the further away you'll be generally.

Second:  "Keywords" about the Keywords.

Text has to read as if it were normal and regular,  natural and entirely conversational.  It amazes me that today there are organizations out there offering convincing arguments that high ranking is some kind of taboo talent.  It most certainly isn't.  It's logic and discipline,  period.

Search Engine's (Google etc.) are much smarter today than ever.  You can't fool them anymore so do you best to learn how they work, then develop a strategy that's solid but flexibleIt may take some time but you will be rewarded with a consistent ability to rank high in the organic search results.

Best Practices:
1.
A free secret!   "The closer to the top of the page that  important keywords are, the more relevant a page will be to the engines. The more relevant the page is for that keyword search, the better the rankings will be.  SO don't underestimate how important it is to bring all keyword-containing text and tags to the top of the page."

2. Content is King - When developing Internet content,  write like your talking.  The more "human" your text is, the better off you will be thus; the better your chances are of high ranking.  The academics of page creation are still very important, just don't try to fool the Search Engines.  It takes some work to get comfortable but the most important factor is to be yourself, write like you speak.   You're the content expert right?  The results will speak for themselves... as you will see.
